UTSA captured back-to-back Conference USA Championships in 2021 and 2022 at the Alamodome, playing in front of more than 40,000 fans each time. The Alamodome was the home of the NBA World Champion San Antonio Spurs from 1993 to 2002.

The UTSA Roadrunners football program represents the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) in the sport of American football. The Roadrunners compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the American Athletic Conference .

The Alamodome is the home stadium to the UTSA Roadrunners Football team. In 2011, UTSA started its inaugural season playing its first-ever game against Northeastern State on September 3, 2011. With attendance of 56,743, UTSA set a record for the highest-attended game for an NCAA Division I FBS start-up program.

Paul McCartney opened the Alamodome's stadium concert era on May 29, 1993 playing to 48,709 fans and the venue has continued to welcome headline acts such as George Strait, Garth Brooks, Elton John, Metallica, One Direction and Bad Bunny just to name a few. UTSA Football. UTSA made a significant move by joining the American Athletic Conference (AAC). The university, previously a member of Conference USA (C-USA), transitioned to the AAC in 2023.

Under Traylor’s tenure, the Dome has given a significant homefield advantage to UTSA. While it’s definitely showing its age, it is still one of the most unique venues in college football. Over the years, the Alamodome has undergone significant renovations and changes in an effort to keep up with the times (more on that in the next section).

UTSA launched its football program in the late 2000s and played their first game in school history in 2011 at the Alamodome. Today the Alamodome remains the home of the Roadrunners football team and the annual Alamo Bowl game.
