The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Insmed's oral drug for a type of lung disease, the company said on Tuesday, making it the first treatment for the chronic condition.

For the first time, people with bronchiectasis will have a treatment option. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Insmed's daily pill brensocatib, which will be sold under the brand name Brinsupri.

Brinsupri, which Insmed acquired from AstraZeneca nearly a decade ago, is the first treatment for bronchiectasis that’s not caused by cystic fibrosis.
