A satirical Facebook post falsely saying that newly instated FBI Director Kash Patel had ordered investigations into 13 congressional Democrats was shared online as if it was authentic.

As they mustered support for their confirmations by the U.S. Senate, some of Donald Trump’s nominees made statements from which they’ve already distanced themselves upon taking office.

Kash Patel is the ninth FBI director and, as an Indian American, the first person of color to hold the position. Patel is a longtime ally of President Donald Trump and was sworn into Trump's second administration in 2025.
