(Reuters) -GitHub Chief Executive Thomas Dohmke said on Monday he will leave the Microsoft-owned code-hosting platform to launch a new startup, capping a tenure that included a major push into artificial intelligence through the company's Copilot products.

Thomas Dohmke, the CEO of Microsoft’s GitHub, has decided to step down. Dohmke held the CEO role for nearly four years. Dohmke will step down from his role by the end of 2025 to pursue his next chapter as a startup founder.

The move comes as GitHub is facing growing competition from companies like Google and Cursor over AI tools for programmers.
