NEW YORK — A Red Flag Warning will be in effect across the entire Tri-State Area from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. A smoky scent continues to fill the air as a result of ongoing wildfires throughout the region.

New Jersey has been experiencing a combination of dry forest grounds, dry air with relative humidity values and windy conditions. A Red Flag Warning meanswhen there are warm temperatures, very low humidity, and stronger winds in the forecast that combination can produce an increased risk of fire danger.

If you see a smokey haze or smell something burning in the air, it’s likely because of wildfires burning in New Jersey. New York City has extended its red flag warning through 6 p.m. Saturday, according to a notice on the NotifyNYC social media account.
