María Corina Machado urged her compatriots to maintain hope while vowing to fight for democracy after a senior Trump envoy cut a deal with President Nicolás Maduro to facilitate U.S. deportations.

Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado on Monday downplayed fears that President Donald Trump had reached an understanding of coexistence with strongman Nicolás Maduro following a deal reached last week in Caracas in which the socialist regime agreed to receive thousands of her countrymen deported from the United States.

Conservative Spanish parliament member Cayetana Alvarez de Toledo, in Miami to receive a democracy award, said her government — and President Trump's — should get tougher on Venezuela's brutal dictatorship.
