Two shark sightings have caused officials to issue a warning covering part of an island in southern Maine. The Harpswell Marine Resources & Harbor Management said in a July 16 Facebook post that the great white shark sightings over 48 hours east of Bailey Island caused the agency to implement shark notification flags at Cedar Beach.

There were two documented sightings of great white sharks off the coast of Bailey Island, the site of Maine's first fatal shark attack.
