The crowd of about 150 demonstrators — from the progressive anti-Zionist group Jewish Voice for Peace, who wore shirts with the message, "Jews Say Stop Arming Israel", gathered at about noon in a downstairs atrium outside the Trump Grill restaurant in Manhattan, the New York Post reported. A total of 98 people were arrested.

Columbia University on Thursday said it had doled out a range of punishments to students who occupied a campus building last spring during pro-Palestinian protests. The announcement came a week after President Donald Trump's administration announced that it had canceled $400 million in federal grants and contracts in response to what it said was the Ivy League school's poor response to antisemitism on campus.

Columbia said it had temporarily revoked the diplomas of some students involved in pro-Palestinian demonstrations.

President Donald Trump's administration has urged a judge to dismiss Columbia University student Mahmoud Khalil's challenge to his immigration arrest, or alternatively move the case out of New York, as the pro-Palestinian activist's lawyers fight for his release.
