The March 2025 total lunar eclipse  should be visible tonight as what's called the "Blood Moon" shines over New York City and the suburbs of Long Island, the Hudson Valley and New Jersey.Here's what to know about when and where to try to catch a glimpse.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the sun, Earth and moon align so the moon passes into the Earth’s shadow, N ASA explained. In a total lunar eclipse, the entire moon falls within the darkest part of the Earth’s shadow called the umbra.

Earth’s shadow will block most of the light that illuminates the lunar surface, creating what is known as a blood moon.
